THE 2009 GAS GAS ARMY
OVER 60 RIDERS ALL OVER EUROPE
GAS GAS Motos present their whole Trial, Enduro, Supermoto and
Raid competition structure and school
One of the main assets that have made GAS GAS Motos international and a world leader in the two-wheel
off-road world, apart from their autonomous manufacturing and the quality of their products, is presence
in competition. An endless list of riders, most likely with Jordi Tarr?s and Paul Emondson as the spearheads
and winners of the first titles in the Trial and Enduro specialities, has been in the line-ups of the double-G
manufacturer. Quite an impressive legacy that materializes today in a varied range of young espoirs and
acclaimed figures, forming their 2009 teams for the Trial, Enduro, Supermoto and Raids disciplines at world,
European, Spanish and Catalan levels.
The family snapshot that will immortalize the meeting of the GAS GAS riders for the coming season in all
the specialities will be really dense. For 2009, the Catalan company is betting on over 60 riders in works
and semi-works teams as well as training schools for future champions. They all have in common their bikes,
GG of different sizes - from the TXT 125 to the 300 in Trial and the EC 125 to the 450 in Enduro, Raids and
Supermoto), but equally acclaimed after winning events and championships in all parts of the world.
And behind every team, the support of the factory and a group of professionals that will attend any rider
no matter their condition, with the only aim to push the factory products as far as possible up the leader
boards in any discipline and, at the same time, to weave a relay that can guarantee a new breeding ground
for riders in Spain, France, Great Britain, Italy and Belgium, the GAS GAS markets of reference.
•••Trial: One works team, a satellite team and a training school
GG Trial Factory, the works team
With the name GG Trial Factory, the works trial GAS GAS
team will be formed by four riders: Adam Raga and Marc
Freixa (both riding the GG 300 TXT Racing Raga) and young
espoirs Daniel Oliveras and Carles Traviesa. The first
three will tackle the overall World Trial Championship and the
Spanish Championship, while young Traviesa will enter the Spanish
TR2 and the European and World 125 Youth Cup.
Adam Raga is about to turn 27 and his tally shows 7 World
Champion titles (4 indoor, 2 outdoor and 1 Junior) as well as
4 Spanish Championships, 1 European and 8 World Trial Championships
for National Teams at the Trial des Nations as his
main achievements. He has already started this year’s season
by entering the World Indoor Trial Championship, where he
may conquer the runner-up place at the last round to be held
in Madrid in mid-March. His minder this year is Josep Campas.
“We always aim at the win. With the Indoor Championship already
decided I will bet strongly for the outdoor championship and, obviously,
aim at repeating my Spanish Championship titles both in the
outdoor and in the indoor. We must keep being ambitious,” states
the Ulldecona rider, who is living in Rellinars, Barcelona, where
he has trained through the years under the guidance of Jordi
Tarres, through the model and prolific School of Champions
GAS GAS.
Marc Freixa is the team’s most veteran rider. He is the top rider
of the “GRO-Non Stop Bikes” structure with GAS GAS Motos
backing, and has factory-rider category. He has been active
for 12 seasons in international trial and he will team up with Santi Navarro as his minder. “Our target is to
be among the top riders in every championship we enter. We must be realistic and we know that winning races is
complicated, but with good performances we can help GG to be as high as possible in the manufacturer’s charts.”
His account has five World Trial Championships for National Teams (Trial des Nations) and he has been the
runner-up in the Spanish Trial Championship. He has also won 5 events in the outdoor World Trial Championship,
and is the sixth Spaniard in number of wins.
Daniel Oliveras returns to his origins in GAS GAS after two years outside the Catalan team. He is 21 years
old and is facing a full season in which “we must manage to be in the top six in the World and Spanish Trial
Championships,” explains the youngster from Girona, who is living in Vilablareix and has Gabriel Reyes as his
loyal minder.
Adam Raga (GG TXT Racing Raga 300)
Carles Traviesa is the new bet for the team. With only 16
years of age, this young man from Sant Andreu de Lavenders
is studying 1st of Technical High School diploma in a school
in Alella and is very good at languages. He will be competing
in the Spanish, European and World Trial Championships this
year - the last two in the Youth Cup - and will also be a rider
in the Spanish National Team. Ismael Lobato is his minder and
coach, a role he shares with Carles Requena.
The works trial team will be supported by a team of professionals
led by Claudi Obradors, with a fantastic racing
structure formed by two motorhome-lorries which will
decorate all the paddocks of the championships that the GG
Trial Factory riders will enter, overlooked by Josep M. Pibernat,
the company chairman as well as brand manager of
the manufacturer’s competition section. Ramon Puente,
the firm’s director, and Marc Arano, manager, Commercial
and Marketing, will also follow the evolution of the works
teams closely.
Spea Tarres Trial Team, the semi-works team
Yet another year, GAS GAS is supporting a young team directed
by one of the manufacturer’s bastions, Jordi Tarres,
with the name ‘Spea Tarr?s Trial Team’, a formation that is
joined in 2009 by a new rider and that will enter events in the
Catalan, Spanish, European and World Championships.
The members of this team are all between 15 and 18. Since
Francesc Moret is the only over-18, he will leave his GG
TXT 125 this year and ride a bigger GG TXT 280, which he
intends to use to aim at the overall European and World Junior
titles, as well as having good performances in the Spanish
TR2 class. Pere Borrellas and Aaro Castells - both
debutants in the team - will follow a similar plan in the World
Youth Cup 125 and in the European Junior Championship, and
they will also tackle the Spanish TR2, although their targets
differ: Borrellas will try to be regularly on the podium, while
Castells’s aim for this year is just to train. Finally, Pol Tarres
will not be able to make his World Championship debut
because he is not 16 yet, but he aims at sweeping his rivals
in the championships he takes part in: European Youth 125,
Spanish Junior Championship and the Catalan Elite class.
This team has already started their participation in the Catalan
Trial Championship in La Clau with a hattrick in the top
Elite class, with Moret, Tarres and Borrellas at the top of the
rostrum and Castells third in Master 125.
Carles Traviesa (GG TXT Pro 300)
Pol Tarr?s (GG TXT Pro 125)
Pascuet Trial School
As the person in charge of the ‘Pascuet Trial School’, Jordi Pascuet, allied with Marcel Justribo, will be responsible
for the school’s good performance. Season after season, kids, youngsters and adults from all parts
of the world go through this school to train, perfect or prepare for trial competition. In this job they will be
assisted by Jordi`s brother, Franc Pascuet.
The school counts on a contingent of GAS GAS motorbikes, which are used to teach the lessons and train
near the headquarters located near la Seu d’Urgell. There are also trial exhibitions by Jordi Pascuet and
Marcel Justribo.
